Pancake Race 2024

The annual Shrove Tuesday race is a firm favourite in the town – and a chance for local businesses to blow off steam and compete for bragging (or flipping…) rights.

With crowds cheering them on, competitors race twice across the Town Bridge, flipping their pancakes as they go.

Fancy dress is optional – but it’s definitely encouraged and applauded. Just ask the dinosaurs and the astronauts from last year.

If you’re a business owner, why not sign up for the race. Or come along to support other members of the business community.

To compete, you’ll need to make a minimum donation of £10 per entrant – which helps fund our fantastic community events throughout the year.

There’s always lots of residents gathered in the town centre cheering everyone on.

And the winner will have their business immortalised on our coveted frying pan trophy – getting to keep the prize until the next race.
