Online Lecture: Sutton Hoo – old stories and new adventures

Price: £7 per screen ( £4.50 WANHS and Bradford on Avon Museum members)

Join Bradford on Avon Museum, Wiltshire Museum and the Saxon Church for an online lecture by Professor Martin Carver on the 7th century ship burial at Sutton Hoo in Suffolk, one of the most exciting archaeological discoveries of the last century. Discovered in the late 1930s by local amateur archaeologist Basil Brown (filmed as The Dig); later excavations were undertaken in the 1980s and 1990s by Professor Carver. He will discuss these, and all the new interpretation we can now bring to this amazing discovery. He will also describe the construction of a replica of the burial ship, now under way.

Booking is essential. Ticket sales close at 5pm on the day of the lecture. An online event, using Zoom webinar – the link will be emailed on the day of the lecture.
