26th February CANCELLED

5th March and 12th March will be going ahead

Words for Wellbeing with Dr Kate Mattacks is a three-week therapeutic writing workshop series.
Each workshop will be based around a different prompt and you are welcome to attend as many as you want. Please bring a pen and paper with you alongside a willingness to listen to others, write/make marks on paper and share if you feel comfortable to.

Therapeutic writing is used in a wide variety of settings, from prisons and the NHS to community spaces, as a way of enabling and connecting voices. It can appear in forms as diverse as poetry, stories, reports, journaling, writing unsent letters, tattoos, tapestries, and spoken word events. It can be personal and communal. It allows inclusive, guided exploration of our identity through facilitated moments of reading, reflection, writing, or mark-making and hearing voices.

Kate Mattacks has an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes (Distinction) following an established academic career in HE. She has published on Victorian literature, drama and disability studies and now writes on prison work and tattoos as therapeutic writing. Kate currently works as a Curriculum and Staff Developer at the University of Bath alongside facilitating therapeutic writing in several prisons, NHS settings and community spaces. Her novel Ghosted is out later this year. She can be contacted via kate@anomia.org.uk
All Kate Mattacks’ writing for wellbeing workshops are held in accordance with the ethical framework laid down by LAPIDUS (www.lapidus.org) and is underpinned by training in GDPR, counselling and mental health training based on Ministry of Justice and BACP guidelines.
