Yet this is not merely a jazz interpretation of Bach’s work; rather Cowley pays homage; not by unravelling or reinventing Bach’s compositions, but by revealing Bach within his own. As with all of Cowley’s music, Bach’s presence is felt — not imitated, and the show lays bare the essence of the Neil Cowley Trio’s sound. Coupled with the music, the engaging and dryly humourous Cowley shares personal stories throughout a dynamic, heartfelt performance.
