Following on from the success of their previous duo collaboration that focussed on J.S. Bach, former WMC Artist in Residence Gwilym Simcock returns with virtuoso violinist Thomas Gould to explore the music of Bach’s Italian contemporary Arcangelo Corelli. Taking two of Corelli’s Op. 5 Sonatas for violin and keyboard as their musical starting point, the duo will showcase the many similarities between music of the Baroque period and jazz. With original excerpts and improvised personal responses, this exciting musical exploration will culminate in a performance like no other of Corelli’s famous La Follia Variations.
