This circular walk has some fine vistas and passes through lovely countryside into Somerset.

Leaving the Kennet & Avon canal we climb our first hill to Lye Green and Lower Westwood. Walking via the medieval village of Rowley we reach Stowford Manor. We then pass the oldest outdoor swimming club to reach Farleigh Hungerford. Care must be taken crossing the river bridge and along the A366. There follows a half mile walk along a quiet country road before following a footpath above the river Frome to Rode and Fussells Farm, local rapeseed oil producer. Here we’ll find out more about the production of the oil and the products that derive from it. There will also be an opportunity to buy.

The return walk takes us through the village of Rode and a climb to High Wood with spectacular views of the Westbury White Horse and Salisbury Plain escarpment. After a short distance, views to the west reveal the Tellisford Valley and Farleigh House (the Bath Rugby headquarters). Finally we cross farmland to Wingfield and Trowle Common, returning to BOA via Rowden Lane.

Easy  – a mainly level, comfortably paced shorter walk (up to about 3 or 4 miles) with no stiles.
Moderate  – a longer, more challenging walk (up to about 7 miles), faster pace, with steps, steeper gradients and stiles.
Demanding – longer and more demanding than moderate, faster pace, requiring greater stamina; possibly more, steeper gradients. We would expect participants to be able to keep up with the pace set by the leader, it is a walk rather than an amble.
