Walking around Bradford on Avon Bradford on Avon’s origins can be traced back to Iron Age settlers. Later there were Roman and Saxon communities here, established around the ford across the river. Yet the majority of the stone buildings, lanes and paths that characterise the town today owe their existence to the prosperity brought over several centuries by the wool trade. Please be aware that some parts of the town are accessed by steep and sometimes uneven paths. Secret Gardens Gardeners in Bradford on Avon are once again opening their gardens to visitors in May, June and July. This popular and highly successful event has been taking place for the past 21 years and has become a whole community event with home made teas being provided in some gardens to raise funds for favourite charities. Gardens open from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday 31st May, Sunday 28th June and Sunday 26th July. Tickets will be available two weeks prior to each event from the Tourist Information Centre and cost £5 each (children under 14 free). Call 01225 865797.
